Sculptures

Dan De Har

Dan De Har carved 3 figures representing a parent, an older child looking confidently outwards and a smaller child nervously looking inwards to the parent. The carving was completed in bluestone (basalt) and Oamaru Stone. The carving took Dan many hours to complete and required the two stone types to be glued together. The shapes created were so heavy that they required a fork lift to move them. The final sculptures were blessed in a special ceremony by Bruce Wikitoa.

Nathan Finlayson

A large Mt Somers rock was picked out of a paddock, lifted by a tractor and loaded on a trailer before being towed back by Mr Redhead to Nathan Finlayson’s house where four children were carved. The sculpture represents a child from each learning community, a team supporting each other.

Nathan Finlayson also carved a heart from Oamaru Stone to represent our Bluestone School values. HEART Honesty, Excellence, Aroha, Respect, Tolerance. This sculpture is proudly displayed in our school office foyer.
